Before your visit
A little preparation can make a consultation more useful. You do not need to arrive with all the answers. Tell us what you have noticed, what has changed, and what you have already tried. We will take it from there.

Questions before you arrive
What should I bring?
Bring anything that may help us understand the story of your skin. Previous prescriptions, laboratory results, biopsy reports, medication lists and photographs from earlier flares can all be useful. If you have been using several skincare products, photographs of their labels are helpful too. Knowing what has already been tried and what happened afterwards can sometimes tell us as much as the concern itself.
Should I stop my skincare before my appointment?
Not necessarily. In most cases, it is helpful for us to see what you are currently using. Please bring photographs of your products or a list of their names. If something needs to be stopped before your consultation or a particular procedure, we will let you know.
Can I send a photograph instead of coming in?
A photograph can offer a useful first glimpse, but skin often asks for closer attention. Some conditions need to be examined in person, while others may require dermoscopy, laboratory testing or a biopsy. For this reason, photographs can support a consultation, but they do not always replace one.
What happens during a consultation?
We begin by listening. We will ask about your concern, how it began, what has changed and what you have already tried. We then examine your skin and, when necessary, discuss further investigations. From there, we will explain what we think is happening and the options available to you. There is no single treatment plan for every patient. The aim is to arrive at one that makes sense for you.
Can I have a procedure during my first visit?
Sometimes. Certain procedures can be performed during the initial consultation when they are appropriate and there is sufficient time. Others require preparation, laboratory testing or a separate appointment. We assess first, then decide what is appropriate to do.
Do you see children?
Yes. Children's skin has its own considerations, and age, development and the circumstances surrounding a condition all matter when deciding how best to investigate and treat it. A parent or legal guardian should accompany younger patients as appropriate.
Can I bring someone with me?
Yes. You are welcome to bring a companion if you would like someone with you during your visit. For younger patients, a parent or legal guardian should be present as appropriate.
What if I need to reschedule?
Plans change. If you need to move your appointment, please let our team know as early as possible. This gives us the opportunity to offer the time to another patient and helps us keep the day running thoughtfully for everyone.
What if I am running late?
Please let us know as soon as you can. We will do our best to accommodate you, depending on the day's schedule. If the delay is substantial, we may need to move your appointment to another time so that we can give your consultation the attention it deserves.
One last thing, you do not need to know the name of what is happening to your skin before you come to see us. That is, in part, what the consultation is for. Come as you are. Bring the story, the questions and whatever you have already tried. We will begin there.
